Symptoms and Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis
2026-04-22
-The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the ball of the foot. Acting much like a rubber band, it stretches with every step you take and also provides support to the arch of the foot. When strained or injured, the plantar fascia can tear, become weak, painful, and swollen. This condition is known as plantar fasciitis and is one of the most common causes of heel pain.
-Plantar fasciitis typically causes a burning, stabbing, or dull ache in the heel. Occasionally, the pain may radiate into the sole of the foot. Most people with plantar fasciitis experience pain when they first get out of bed in the morning.
-Healthcare providers may also recommend other treatment options, such as:
A.Taping the arch of the foot.
B.Using night splints. These supportive devices protect the feet and stretch the foot while you sleep.
C.Adding special supportive inserts to shoes for extra support, such as heel pads, orthotics (e.g., braces or splints), or arch supports.
D.Undergoing physical therapy.
If these treatments do not provide relief, consult your healthcare provider.
